How much time do I need to devote to Martial Arts?

Hello Friend

Just a short look at how much time you need to devote to Martial Arts (MA)... In order to get a reasonable return on time invested.

Or you can look at it from the point of view of; what I want from it is........ And therefore I need to put so much time in.

Most people who join a martial arts club want to get to black belt. There are always exceptions. But this is the majority.

How bad do you want it?

It takes about 3-6 years to get there depending on how much time you can put in. 

If say you are training in the dojo twice a week for 1.5 hours each session and at home, you put in another 2-3 hours. This will get you to black belt around the 3 year mark… Maybe sooner depending on the speed with which you grasp it.

Once you get to black belt, your real journey begins. And all you've done in the time leading up to black belt will help you to decide just what that journey is.

I said it would be short ... But I have a few considerations for you before we go... 


A way of life

Martial arts is best approached with this view in mind, you'll do more as part of your daily life that way, rather than seeing it as an interruption... Taking this view means you'll put much more loving time into it without realising you've done so... Fab 



Make it fun

You've gotta love it, MA is unique and will require you to do things you'll not have come across in daily life before. To make it fun, treat it like an adventure... 

When practicing at home there are no rules as to structure... So play with it just like a toy; pick it up, put it down, look at it from different angles, experiment, play music in the back ground while you are practicing... Whatever works for you. 

This will lighten the regiment of the art and you'll find yourself enjoying it more, having fun, without realising it... You’ll be learning and internalising loads.


Be virtuous about the things you enjoy the least. 

As I said above, there will be parts for each and every person that just does not fit as well as other aspects...

These are the parts you treat with the 'Make it fun' idea above.
